PETRONAS Energy Canada Ltd. (PETRONAS Canada) is proud to share that 100 per cent of its natural gas is now certified as responsibly sourced through Equitable Origin’s EO100™ Standard for Responsible Energy Development.
“Developing resources in a responsible way starts with a strong commitment to sustainability,” says Izwan Ismail, President and Chief Executive Officer, PETRONAS Canada. “Along with our sustainability strategy, achieving the EO100™ certification helps differentiate PETRONAS Canada in the natural gas market and further demonstrates our commitment to responsible operations.”
“Our leadership team appreciates the time and energy of our key stakeholders, Indigenous partners and PETRONAS Canada staff who contributed to achieving the certification. The learnings throughout this process are helping us to continue to mature our practices and advance our sustainability strategy,” adds Izwan.
Equitable Origin (EO) is a non-profit organization that partners with business, communities and governments to support responsible energy development through independent standards and third-party certification. The EO100™ Standard for Responsible Energy Development is a set of comprehensive, globally-applicable and verifiable Environmental, Social and Governance performance indicators developed with extensive stakeholder input. Expert independent certification to the EO100™ Standard recognizes and incents best practices and drives performance improvements.
PETRONAS Canada selected EO to pursue responsibly sourced gas (RSG) certification due to its robustness and independence of the assessment process. To obtain certification, companies must participate in an extensive independent assurance process that includes site-level assessments, expert peer review, a commitment to continual improvement as a condition for certification, and ongoing engagement with key stakeholders and Indigenous communities.
Receiving RSG certification reaffirms that PETRONAS Canada is well-positioned to provide global markets with the responsible and secure energy the world needs – now and for the long-term.
