PETRONAS Canada believes in helping to strengthen the communities where we live and work. It’s why we are pleased to share the company is partnering with Wood’s Homes. Based in Calgary, Alberta, Wood’s Homes is a mental health centre providing treatment and support for children, young people, adults and families with mental health challenges, family trauma, and recovery needs.

PETRONAS Canada is contributing $450,000 to support Wood’s Homes’ Through it ALL campaign, the organization’s modernization project. Focused on replacing outdated facilities and increasing capacity, the project will see the construction of a new state-of-the-art, therapeutically designed facility at the Parkdale Campus. At the Bowness Campus, four new therapeutic campus-based care centres will also be constructed, providing additional resources for clients and increasing the total on-site capacity to 82 beds. The project will also incorporate culturally appropriate spaces for Indigenous gatherings, teachings, and ceremonies as approximately 30 to 50 per cent of the young people in their programs are Indigenous.

Bjorn Johansson, CEO of Wood’s Homes, says this gift breathes life into a project that is going to transform the therapeutic environment. “This gift from PETRONAS Canada means we’ll be able to bring our facilities up to 21st century levels of support, safety, and efficiency so children and young people can grow, heal and thrive in their communities.”

“An essential part of a strong community is access to mental health resources,” says Shannon Young, Vice President, Legal, Sustainability and External Affairs at PETRONAS Canada. “PETRONAS Canada is proud to partner with Wood’s Homes as the organization works to increase access to specialized spaces and improve the quality of its clients' lives.”

Construction of Cottage E on the Parkdale campus has already begun and completion is targeted for summer 2024, with construction of the Bowness facilities to take place shortly after.

“We applaud the work Wood’s Homes is doing, and its long-term approach to supporting mental health needs in the community,” says Shannon.

PETRONAS Canada’s contribution is made through the company’s Uplifting Lives social impact pillar, demonstrating how we are committed to empowering communities to reach their full potential and create positive social impact and change.
